The Mighty God

Updated: Jan 10

During this Christmas season, it is often remembered about Jesus being born in a manger. There are a lot of songs about "baby Jesus." Through this all, it is easy to forget the God that we serve.

In Isaiah 9:6 we read "For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

During this holiday, may we never underestimate or under view who our Lord Jesus Christ is. Yes, He humbly came here to earth to save sinners. But, despite His "lowly coming" He remains mighty! I like how all the descriptions are capitalized. It is who He is. It is not just some name that partially describes Him. All of these names describe who He is in full. I want this phrase of "Mighty God" to encourage you during this season. As mentioned earlier, it is easy to undervalue who Jesus is during Christmas. During this season, we remind ourselves of the Savior who came. The One who is returning back again. The Mighty God who remains all powerful. Despite our views of Him, He still is.

Many do not see God as one who is Mighty simply because they have created their own God in their mind. They read the same bible, but they pick and choose the qualities that agree with them. Instead of allowing the truth to change, they adjust the truth. This is no longer truth because as the bible says, "truth is in Jesus." There is only one Jesus, so it means there can only be one truth. There is only one standard of Christianity. Yes, we people have adjusted things simply because we did not agree with it.

If you are going through trials in your life, remember that Jesus is Mighty! There is nothing impossible for Him. He holds the entire world in His hands. If we entrusted our salvation over to God, why do we have a difficult time entrusting our everyday worries into His hands? It comes down to faith. When we look at the Old Testament, we see God mightily moved in the midst of His people. Now, that same Spirit of God that moved back then lives in us! He has never been closer to people than now! The reason we don't see God move in our lives is because we do not believe. Jesus over and over mentioned that if we only have faith in God, we will even move mountains!

Jesus was not talking about physical mountains we see, but those inner mountains we experience. Maybe you are going through health issues. Maybe through a loss. It seems as if your life is falling apart. Trust in God and believe He is Mighty! Just by one word He is able to calm the storm. Just by sending forth one word He is able to heal. Everything is supposed to operate by the will of God. I am not saying to name it and claim it. We ask in faith, but it is up to God if He wills. When we are abiding in Christ daily, we become to know the will of the Father. When we pray, we pray with faith that God is able to do so. But even if not, He still remains God.

We may never know the "why's" here on earth, but that is not important. The important thing is to continue to walk in Christ and allow everything to build us up. Job went through trials and never got an answer why. But he remained faithful because he knew that he is not in the place to question God. Through it all, we can have assurance that all things work together for our good and for His glory.

Remember, God is willing to do far more greater things in our life than what we experience now. Afterall, He is the Mighty God!
